| LUXOL ULTRA
FINE GRAIN DEVELOPER, BUT WITH DEFINITION |
| Readers of my books 'Elements' and 'Edge of Darkness'
will be familiar with my use and recommendation of traditional
ultra fine grain developers from Ilford and Kodak, but in diluted
form to regain edge definition (which can be lost with the grain-dissolving
actions of these developer types), and to gain translucent easily
printed highlights. For some years I have been refining and
using my own version of these 'smoothy' developers (compared
to the aggressive sharpness of DiXactol for instance) that retains
the ultra fine grain, but gives a lift to crispness and acutance.
I called this developer, used in some pictures in 'Edge of Darkness',
Luxol which is used in stock solution diluted 1:2, 1:3 or 1:4
for one-shot use at standard film speeds for kid-glove treatment
of all film types other than Technical Pan. It gives the ultimate
quality of which a film is capable when ultra definition and
extreme control of highlight densities aren't important, and
where the extra 'artificial speed' provided by film stain as
printing density is not required. Its single bath formulation
gives precise control of negative density for experienced photographers
who want to test for personal film speed and development time.
There is little point in using Luxol for ultra speed films like
Delta 3200 or T-Max 3200, however, because DiLuxol Vitesse will
obviously yield higher film speeds where this is priority. You
too can be 'an old smoothy', but with a cutting edge, with Luxol!
Only available direct from Fine Print in a one litre pack. |
